Kendra K. Ham, MD Celebrates National Book Lovers Day With Pediatric Health Book Series

Double board-certified pediatrician Kendra K. Ham, MD celebrates National Book Lovers Day through children’s books that make health education engaging.

WINSTON SALEM, NC, UNITED STATES, August 9, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — In recognition of National Book Lovers Day, celebrated annually on August 9, Kendra K. Ham, MD, a double board-certified pediatrician, educator, and children’s author, is highlighting the role books can play in helping children learn about their bodies, health, and medical care.
Dr. Ham is the author of the Medical Adventures with Dr. Andrea children’s book series, including A Violin in the Shed and Bell’s Policy. The educational stories follow young patients as they experience symptoms, visit their pediatrician, receive answers, and learn about health conditions that can affect children.
Designed to make medical learning more approachable, the series gives children language for asking questions about their health while helping families introduce potentially unfamiliar medical topics in a comforting, story-driven format.
In A Violin in the Shed, young Michelle is bitten by a mystery insect during an adventure in her backyard. When her mother becomes concerned, Michelle visits her pediatrician, Dr. Andrea, to discover what is causing her symptoms. The story takes readers from Michelle’s imaginative outdoor adventure to the pediatrician’s office, where the diagnosis may surprise them.
The companion coloring and activity book for A Violin in the Shed expands the learning experience beyond the story, providing families, educators, and healthcare professionals with an interactive resource for discussing children’s health.
In Bell’s Policy, Kristopher suddenly struggles to perform impressions of his favorite trumpet player. After visiting Dr. Andrea, he learns that he has a condition involving his nervous system. The story follows Kristopher as he gains a clearer understanding of his diagnosis and continues to hold onto his dream of playing his favorite instrument again.
Dr. Ham’s work as an author is informed by her clinical and academic background. She is double board-certified in General Pediatrics and Child Abuse Pediatrics and serves on a Children’s Child Protection Team that includes four child advocacy centers and an inpatient consultation team. She is also an Associate Professor at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, where she teaches medical students, residents, and other learners.
A graduate of the College of Charleston, Dr. Ham earned dual degrees in Biology and Spanish before receiving her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Through the Medical Adventures with Dr. Andrea series, Dr. Ham combines pediatric medicine, education, child advocacy, and literacy to create resources that can support children and families as they navigate health-related questions and experiences.
